Brownstones around Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO were mostly built with an icebox in mind, not a column refrigerator, so a water line run to the kitchen is often newer than the house itself and worth checking on an ice maker call. Narrow interior stairs also shape how a full-size unit gets carried in or out.
